About Tegan

About Tegan

I am an artist. In 2011 I returned to the West Coast from New York City where I was part of a collective of artists working with inner city youth designing and painting murals in urban areas. My background is based in print media, I have taught at The Vancouver Island School of Art, The Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, Malaspina Printmakers, The Alberta College of Art & Design and Concordia University as well as participated in projects at The Banff Centre in Alberta and The Bauhaus University in Weimar Germany. My art practice is inspired by street art and it’s role in the community narrative.

Currently in 2025 I am deepening my creative spirit by immersing myself the in the centre of Mexico; listening to the land, oceans, animals and diversity of culture to deepen my understanding of heartfelt communication. As well as study Spanish and fall in love with life.

Artist Statement

Working in the sociopolitical spirit of public intervention, my art practice is heavily weighted in site-specific research, community engagement and access to historical documentation of the events that continue to shape the community. The strength of my art practice lies in the investigation of the community’s response to and awareness of social landscape. Researching and documenting the multiple frequencies in which information is shared is a level on which my art practice functions. Rather than recycling the politicized stereotypes of a location, I explore the nuances that define the history of the city and amplify the ongoing streams of expression that continue to create the culture.
